Buffer and backfill modeling


Clay Technology has great modeling capability with expertise in thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) and chemical modeling with different finite element codes and other codes. Modelling of the THM processes of bentonite based buffer materials in deposition holes and backfill materials in repository tunnels is done with different codes such as Code Bright, Comsol, Flac and Abaqus. Rock mechanics modeling


 

Over the last 20 years, Clay Technology has been the main contributor to the assessment of the thermal, thermo-mechanical and hydro-mechanical behaviour of the rock mass within and around the projected Swedish nuclear waste repository made by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co (SKB) in connection with layout decisions and risk analyses.
